What a cubic yard actually means
A cubic yard is a block of space three feet on every side, roughly six to nine kitchen trash bags of loose material. A 20 yard container holds twenty of those blocks, which sounds enormous until you load a single bathroom gut and watch it fill a third of the box.
10 yard
Best for concrete, dirt, small bathroom remodels and single-room cleanouts. Roughly 12 x 8 x 3.5 feet with low sides that make hand loading easy.
15 yard
The sweet spot for garage cleanouts, deck removals and mid-size remodels. Same footprint as the 10 with taller walls.
20 yard
The most requested size. Handles most whole-house cleanouts, roof tear-offs up to about 30 squares and kitchen renovations.
30 yard
New construction, large additions, commercial cleanouts and light bulky material such as siding, cabinetry and packaging.
When in doubt, size up
The price gap between one size and the next is almost always smaller than the cost of a second delivery. If your project sits on the line between two sizes, take the larger container.
